Hello folks, I'm a bit rusty on this, but I've had a go at making the invite and adding the events in - thank you for the start WomenArtistUpdates, for everyone else, please could you add redlists, etc. to the events and we need a tip of the month ... (NEW) Religion

    [edit]

I thought we could consider reviving the 2024 initiative on religion and celebrate it in May, which marks the first anniversary of Leo XIV's papacy, when Jews celebrate Shavuot, Buddhists celebrate Vesak, and Muslims celebrate the beginning of the month of Dhul-Hijjah. What do you think? Thanks and best regards. _-_Alsor (talk) 22:18, 7 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

I'm supportive of this. Suggest we align it to match up with the scope of WikiProject Women in Religion: scholars, activists and practitioners in the world's religious, spiritual and wisdom traditions. @Rosiestep, the Women in Religion WikiProject would be happy to help! It may even coincide with the publication of our newest volume of biographies, which is about women of non-traditional faith traditions. I'm sure that @Dzingle1 can tell us more about the exact publication date. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 04:56, 9 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Volume 4 will hopefully be on its way to publication by May. The working title is Women Challenging Dominant Religious Practices and Expectations through Women-centered Traditions and Spiritualities. Let me know if you need more information. Dzingle1 (talk) 22:21, 19 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

    (NEW) Judiciary

    [edit]

Lately, I have been creating biographies of female judges, and I think it would be interesting to dedicate a monthly initiative to female judges, lawyers, and prosecutors. Although women are very well represented in this sector, and in some countries they are almost in the majority, this is not usually reflected in the high courts, which are very male-dominated spaces. As a result, the few women who are there, especially from non-Anglo-Saxon countries, do not have biographies. To propose a date, 17 July is World Justice Day, which commemorates the date on which the Rome Statute establishing the International Criminal Court was adopted. I would be delighted if it were done earlier. The last time an initiative on justice took place was in February 2023. Thanks and best regards. _-_Alsor (talk) 23:31, 6 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

July is currently unscheduled subject wise. I think this is a great topic! Would you be willing/able to lead the month of July?
Potentially we could roll this in with the idea of Villains listed above and do "Crime and Punishment"? TheResilientEngineer (talk) 12:23, 7 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@TheResilientEngineer Your proposal is fantastic! Perhaps the title could be "Crime and Law", so that we also cover constitutional justice, but I like it either way. It would be the first time I've led a month, and I'm committed to doing it, but I'd appreciate your help on how to go about it. Thank you! _-_Alsor (talk) 14:34, 7 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

    Works by Women

    [edit]

Just moving the link for this idea across, in nutshell there was a proposal for quarterly focuses, but I think that got lost. We could still do a n month for each. I suggested (but also forgot I suggested) these categories: Quarter 1 = Visual arts (painting, sculpture, textiles, architecture, prints, ceramics, fashion, design, New media art, video games) Quarter 2 = Performance (music, dance, drama, opera, film, television) Quarter 3 = Textual Works (fiction, non-fiction, scholarly works, poetry) Quarter 4 = Scientific Works (inventions, equations, naming species, etc. - might need some help with some lists?)

On relfection, and looking at the structure that was already put in above, it would be something like:

    • February - Music, theatre, opera, etc.
    • March - Works by Women series: Works of Painting and Sculpture
    • April - Works by Women series: Written Works
    • May - Scientiftic works

If editors like it, maybe it could be quarterly in 2027 Lajmmoore (talk) 20:10, 24 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

    Revolutionary women

    [edit]

Hey all. For quite a while now I've been working on articles about revolutionary women (i.e. women who either participated in revolutions or were involved in revolutionary movements/organisations). Most of my submissions have been to other themed events, but I was thinking it might be fun to do a specific edit-a-thon focused on revolutionary women. I can try putting together a red list for it, perhaps we could do it some time next year? --Grnrchst (talk) 14:39, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @Grnrchst I think this should go on the agenda next year. April 2025 does not have a theme attributed. Perhaps we add it to the list? When we get round to March it would be great if you can help create the event page, would you be happy to do that? TheResilientEngineer (talk) 08:48, 21 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Interwiki edit-a-thon

    [edit]

I was just fiddling around with the number of links redlist, as I noticed it hadn't updated in over a year, and managed to get it back to working order. It got me thinking whether we should have an edit-a-thon focused specifically on creating articles with a high number of interwiki links; the redlist includes articles with 7 or more interwiki links. This could be a nice way to focus on the higher importance (for lack of a better term) articles that other language wikis have recognised as worthy of articles. --Grnrchst (talk) 09:46, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Support! as I think it's an interesting perspective. --Rosiestep (talk) 19:10, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Alternative to Humaniki

    [edit]

Faced with the continuing problems with Humaniki (see WiR talk page), it seems to me it would be useful for this project to have an alternative approach to statistics on the proportion of biographies of women on the EN wiki. We should not be dependent on the availability of Humanity's principal creator, who is in any case usually busy with other assignments.--Ipigott (talk) 10:38, 2 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Checklist for updates of virtual meetups

    [edit]

This section is purely administrative. It is not about the ongoing discussions of topics.

WiR generally has a variety of monthly, quarterly and annual events. WiR also sends out an “invitation” to its registered participants notifying them of those events. This is an effort to list tasks associated with the administrative tasks of updating and adding pages. We will be maintaining this list to assist with Quality Assurance. This is a working document and should be maintained to reflect current bast practices. WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 16:52, 18 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

As of March 2024 we are working with a new set of cascading templates. Because the template speak to each other the preview of the template might not be as expected. For example 302 might look like 304. Additionally some pages won't preview correctly unless the editor purges the page to update the cache.

The interrelated templates allow us to make changes and pages once, without updating new and past events throughout the WiR ecosystem. This will ultimately reduce mistakes, bad directs, and misinformation. The coders involved are watching these pages to ensure they work correctly. March 2024 is the first iteration. If direction are not clear it is the drafter's fault - not the coders, so please be gentle.

This is a working document and should be maintained to reflect current bast practices. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 21:43, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    • Step 1 - add details of the event to Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/events (see instructions at Template:WikiProject Women in Red/doc#Technical info). This will automatically update the various lists of events, and also allows editors to tag the article talk pages with {{WikiProject Women in Red}} or its shortcut {{WIR}}.
    • Step 2 - create the event page at Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Meetup/n where n is the number of the new event. You can use the {{WIR meetup}} header template to help you, which will populate the event header and right side infoboxes.
    • Step 3 - add the "body" of the page (welcome, redlists, purpose) using a similar editathon as a starting point. You can copy sections from previous month to add boilerplate language. For example, start at Participants copy through the bottom of the page (example). (Remember to update month and event number in the pasted sections.)
    • Step 4 - create a new category for meetup articles (e.g. at Category:WikiProject Women in Red meetup 363 articles). Add the template {{WIR category}} to the new category.
    • Step 5 - create the invite (e.g. Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Outreach/2024#March 2024) using the previous month's invite as a go-by.
    • Step 6 - invite and receive feedback from a sufficient number of WiR enthusiasts that the event page and invite are okay. Mark reviewed items with {{ok}}
    • Step 7 - send out MassMessage notification.
